QUICK START GUIDE

How to use the Resume Builder

Follow these steps from your first screen to your finished file. Keep this guide open in another tab while you build.

Go to My Career Studio →

Before you start

Sign in first. Use your existing profile, or choose Create a profile. New profiles need your name, email, a password with at least eight characters, and the terms checkbox. If something is missing, the login form tells you what to fix. You can press Enter to submit.

Joining a workshop? Use the profile your facilitator helped you set up. If you see the access options, find Group access code below the plans, enter your facilitator’s code, and choose Use my group code. Ask your facilitator if you need help with access.

Have your details handy. Bring your work history, dates, education, and any certifications you want included. If you are updating a resume, have the file ready on your device. Never add a duty or credential that is not yours.

01

Choose where to start

Open My Career Studio. Choose Create a resume to start fresh, or Update my resume to upload one. If you already started, choose Continue my resume or Continue my resume update to pick up your saved draft.

Add and check your experience

Start with your full name, target role, and email or phone. For a new resume, add a job title for your first position. Optional sections can stay blank. For an update, upload a PDF or Word (.docx) file up to 10 MB, wait for the success message, and check the job titles, employers, dates, and locations the Studio found. Add or correct anything missing. Brief notes are okay. If the builder asks questions about a job or volunteer role, answer what you know and skip what you do not. To target an opening, turn on the tailoring option and paste the job description or its public link.

Review, edit, and download

Read the finished resume before sending it to an employer. Select Review & Edit Resume or Edit resume to change wording or details. Use Sort newest first to put dated jobs in order, or move them individually. Select Save changes and wait for the saved confirmation. If you keep typing while a save runs, save again when prompted. Then return to Preview & download. If you see researched responsibility suggestions, confirm only duties you actually performed or remove them. Then select Download Word for an editable file or Download PDF for an application copy. Your resume also appears in My Career Studio → My Saved Files.

A stronger professional summary

Use 2–3 focused sentences that connect your actual work background to the role you want. Include two relevant strengths supported by your experience. Specific duties, tools, or scope are useful evidence even when you do not have numbers.

In Review & Edit Resume, check the summary and any review notes. Replace generic claims with facts you can explain in an interview. Only include years, metrics, leadership, or credentials you can verify. Review notes are suggestions; check the finished Word or PDF before sending it.

Finding your way

Need a break? Choose Save & exit at the bottom of the builder and wait until My Career Studio opens. If saving fails, keep the page open and retry. Return through My Career Studio to continue your draft.

Want an earlier step? Choose Back at the bottom of the builder. The numbered list shows where you are; use the bottom buttons to move between steps.

Already built a resume? Go to My Career Studio → My Saved Files → Resume files and choose Open resume to edit or download it.

Stuck? Here’s what to do

Continue does not move me forward

Look for A few details need attention before you continue. Select an item in that message to jump to the field, correct it, then try Continue again. If tailoring is on but you do not have a posting, choose Continue without a job posting. During an upload, wait for it to finish before continuing.

My upload did not finish

Check your connection, then select the upload box again. You can retry the same file. Use a PDF or Word (.docx) file up to 10 MB. Check for Resume read successfully before moving on, then review the imported information.

My saved draft will not open

If you see Let’s reopen your resume safely, choose Try again. The builder waits to load your draft before allowing edits. If the message asks you to sign in, return to My Career Studio, sign in, and reopen the draft.

Building or saving takes too long

Read the message shown on the screen and check your connection. Keep the page open so your current entries remain available. Retry the action after it stops loading. For edited resumes, wait for Saved to My Career Studio; a download alone does not save edits to your account.

The download buttons are unavailable

Read any contact-detail or responsibility-confirmation message above the buttons. Open the editor to correct the flagged details. Confirm researched duties only if you performed them, or remove them. Save your changes, then return to Preview & download.

I forgot my password or the reset link expired

On the login screen, enter your account email and select Forgot my password. Open the newest reset email and use its link once. If it has expired, request a new link. Workshop participants who need help with their profile should ask the facilitator.
